Has your house has suffered storm damage?
Frequently, homeowners don’t believe that small hail is capable of causing a major problem. However, the many impacts of small hail over time can dislodge roofing granules and may damage the shingle matting that leads to an unattractive roof and potential problems with major roof leaks.
The naked eye might not be able to see roof damage (but then again, some damage is truly eye-popping), but hail damage might still exist. If you inspected your siding or roofing following a hailstorm but did not see any visible damage, you still should have a Petrali Roofing inspector look at your roof.
We’re trained to spot problems that most folks won’t see.
Just because there are not any missing shingles doesn’t necessarily mean your roof doesn’t have other problems. Typically, missing shingles are not due to hail damage but from high winds instead.

Our Typical Process For Roof Replacement After A Storm:
1. Determine what the damage is for a legitimate roof replacement claim
A specific number of hits per square or number of damaged spots is required by most major insurance carriers. Petrali Roofing will make the determination of whether your roof experienced hail hits and whether your roof meets the minimum that most insurance carriers require in order to qualify for a claim. To file a claim, you can either directly call the claims department or call your local agent for assistance.
Your insurance company will ask you questions such as the following:
- When did the damage occur?
- What type of damage did your house sustain?
Please ask us if you aren’t sure what the answer to these questions are – we’re here to help.
2. Schedule With the Adjuster
The claims adjuster at your insurance company will contact you to schedule an inspection of your roof and home. It isn’t necessary for you to be there, but we definitely should be there to show the adjuster where the damage is.
3. Receive Your Estimate Letter And a Check
If your insurance adjuster thinks your roof is damaged, then an estimate will be written for the scope of work that needs to be done. The estimate letter may be able to be printed on the spot, however usually the letter gets mailed to you. Sometimes your adjuster might be able to write a check to you on the spot. However, most of the time, the check will be mailed to you along with the estimate letter. In the estimate letter it will provide a line-by-line detail of everything that is being put in the claim by the adjuster. It will include the roof along with other things like fence replacement or repair, windows and screens, painting, furnace vents, siding and gutters.
Remember, Petrali Roofing can take care of all the damage your home has sustained – not just the roof!
5. Your First Insurance Check
Most people end up getting confused at this point. The adjuster determines the value for replacing your roof. He also will determine a depreciation value for the existing roof that is based on its damages and age. You will then receive a check for the estimate amount minus your deductible (in a majority of case) minus the depreciation. This is where so many people get confused, because the first check seems very small for a re-roofing project.
This 2-check procedure has 2 exceptions!
If you have a small claim, your insurance company might pay the whole claim in just one check.
If there is an “Actual Cash Value” with your insurance policy instead of “Replacement Cost Value” then the only check you get will be the estimate minus the depreciation costs and minus your deductible. You will have to pay the different on the cost for replacing your roof. Before you call in an insurance claim on your home’s roof make sure that your check your insurance policy first.
6. Get Your Roof Replaced
After you have your first check and estimate letter, Petrali Roofing will be able to show you shingle color (and upgrade) options, get a permit for the work to be done, and get starting on performing the work of getting your roof replaced. If we are working on your gutters, paint, window replacement or siding repair work in addition to roof replacement then then we’ll start work on those items as well.
7. After The Work Is Complete
After the work has been completed, we will then send you a final invoice that you will forward to your insurance company that states the work has been completed. Your insurance company then releases the depreciation (if applicable) and you will get your second check.
At Petrali Roofing, we know that a damaged roof, siding, gutters and other outdoor items on your home can cause massive damage if left unrepaired. Therefore, we encourage you to hire a local and experienced roofing company like Petrali Roofing to protect and preserve your entire home.
Roof repair delays might cause problems:
- Reduce the life of your siding and roofing.
- Bruised shingles might turn into holes and then leaks
- Unsightly mold that grows in cracks might start causing leaks.
- Void your siding and roofing warranties.
- Leave you with expensive repairs and also cost you more money and time if you decide to sell your house someday.
